We are in an age group called "fretters" due to our fretful lifestyle. Not baby boomers or generation x as a comparison. Why? Because 3 million plus of Australians aged between 16 and 28 are confused and slightly anxious. We are worried about terrorism, corporate collapses, careers, relationships and financial future. We are conservative and worry that Australia is becoming more like the United States.
This research was taken out by Sweeny Research and Spin Communications and was taken over a period of 7 months. According to the CEO of Spin, it seems we suffer from a "quarter-life crisis". Mr Lock says we are confused and stressed. We have lived through the onset of AIDS, the tech boom and the war on terrorism and there's a high degree of uncertainty within us.
We have bee divided into so called "tribes" and been given gay names such as "glitterazzi" for those who are comparitively stress-free and are focused on material success. Then there's "burbanites" who beleve in traditional values like family and religion. "Life Junkies" who demonstrate a "zest for life". "Drifters" who are detached from society but have strong social conscience. "Life mappers" who are focused on stability and then "Renegades" who are "living life on the edge".
49% of us believe Australia's future will be better than it's past but 51% are pessimistic assholes.
53% live with their parents and only 18% have a mortgage or own a property. 87% say they have a good relationship with their parents.
27% have worked as volunteers in the past month and a 1/3 believe Australia should accept more immigrants.
90% of us own a mobile phone, 67% of us own a laptop and our 2 most important possessions are our mobile phones and our car, followed by audio equipment, computers and shoes and clothes.
Optus is our number one network with 33% of us in their network followed by Telstra with 25% and Vodafone with 20%.
They say we have a strong streak of patriotism and nationalism with 90% of us proud to say we're Australian, 59% buy Australian made products when possible and 42% of us believe that Australia should be a republic.
So i guess we're materialistic, selfish, self centred bastards. Now the corporations know what to look for when they market their products using stupid promotions like breakdancin to advertise McDonalds and a partying lifestyle to promote Coca-Cola. It's fucken pathetic.
Anyway, all the best for the hsc people
